Volunteering
We are very grateful for the help of our many volunteers over the years. Without them we would not be able to run such a successful programme.
If you would like to volunteer your time and skills to Vision Afrika, please complete the applicable form below and return it via email. You should also feel free to contact us for more information. We accept both South African and international volunteers.
InternationalVolunteerApplication
LocalVolunteerApplication
Vision AfriKa is looking for individuals to fill the following positions:
Creche
The crèche is a day-care center for pre-school age children. Volunteers are needed to care for and entertain these toddlers. The crèche operates Monday through Friday from 8am until 1pm (13:00). Volunteers interested in working in the crèche should be able to commit to working everyday for at least one month. This is due to the relationships that are built with the children.
Aftercare
The aftercare programme is an after school programme for primary school children. Volunteers are needed to care for and entertain these children, sometimes helping with homework. Aftercare operates Monday through Friday from 1pm (13:00) until 4pm (16:00). Volunteers interested in working in aftercare should be able to commit to working everyday for at least one month. This is due to the relationships that are built with the children.
Tutoring
Students of all ages need help with their homework after school, and come to the office for assistance. Volunteers are needed to help with homework and to tutor students who are struggling in school. Tutoring happens Monday through Friday from 2pm (14:00) until 7pm (19:00). Volunteers interested in tutoring can commit to any length of time, but should please inform Vision Afrika of the days and times they plan to attend. (Math and science tutors are particularly needed!)
Foster Care Assistance
Vision AfriKa is loosely affiliated with a series of local foster homes that care for children who have been removed from (or abandoned by) their families. These children are in need of academic support, caring individuals to play with them, transportation to classes or doctor visits, and volunteers interested in teaching an informal class on art, dance, or sports. The homes also need assistance with cleaning and laundry, transportation on fun group outings, cooking meals, and volunteers interested in caring for the house mothers by providing massage or doing manicures. Interested volunteers must be able to commit a minimum of six months or longer. This is due to the importance of building lasting relationships with the children. Volunteers must also be able to pass a background check, as it is required by law.
Vision AfriKa group leaders
Co-facilitators and small-group leaders are needed to assist during sessions with the Vision AfriKa students. Sessions cover topics including (but not limited to) life skills, teamwork, human rights, community involvement, CV-writing, university applications, entreprenuership, etc. Interested volunteers should contact Vision AfriKa with their interests and experience. Volunteers should be available to participate for at least three months due to the importance of relationship-building.
Vision AfriKa administrative support
Various types of administrative support are needed. Anyone skilled in IT, human resources management, program evaluation, or business would be highly useful. Volunteers able to proofread reports in English are also very valuable. Vision AfriKa is also interested in volunteers with experience in curriculum development or staff training. Anyone with these skills would be welcome for any length of time, but are requested to advise Vision AfriKa of their intended schedule.
Volunteer Coordinator
Vision AfriKa also needs a volunteer coordinator. This volunteer would be in charge of welcoming and training other volunteers, recruiting future volunteers, updating volunteer material, and posting on relevant social media sites. Interested volunteers should be able to commit to working for at least 5-10 hours a week for at least six months.
Various tasks
Volunteers with a special skill they would like to share with youth are welcome to approach us with suggestions. Anyone interested in teaching music, sports, dance, yoga, art, etc. to a small group would be appreciated. The time of commitment is flexible, but interested volunteers should advise Vision AfriKa of their plans at least two months in advance of leading the class.
